What a Month

Yeah! May is almost over.

With May coming to a close, I can only hope that there are better days ahead of us.

Kaya had her allergist appointment Friday.
Things aren't so bad with her.
She is severely allergic to some trees, junipers, and cats.

So, Scott and I were right,
the juniper bushes out front of our house were the cause of her attack a few weeks ago.
The doctors have her on some preventative medications.
Things to help her in the future, with some luck should help her deal with these problems and not allow them to turn into asthma.

I go in for surgery on my thyroid on the 7th of June.
We still haven't gotten a straight answer, as to what is wrong with me.
With any luck we'll have them that day.

Baseball is going great for Dylen.
He enjoys having his dad there for him on his game days.
There have been some days of chaos, but what do you expect?!?>

We are looking forward to some fun weeks ahead watching him play.
He should have plenty of time to practice, now.......hahaha!
And this will give him something to do during the next few weeks now that school lets out at the end of this week.

EEEKkk!

The dance review is now only day's away.
The kids are ready for a break I think.
I know that I am.
We are most likely NOT doing many show's and classes this summer.
I like being able to devote my day's to fun activities, so that we don't get burned out on dance.

Dylen is starting to lose interest in most of it anyway.....not that I mind.
He is turning towards sports.
If he does dance this fall, I see him just doing jazz and gymnastics.

He is wanting to play football also this fall......
Fun! FUn! fUn! fUN!

Kaya Takes Thrid Place.

Kaya completed her third pageant.
I realized today that I forgot to elaborate on it with all the other things going on in our lives.

She was the only one in her age division to get on stage by herself.
She did great.
Unfortunately, letting her get on stage with out one of us with her may have hurt her scores, in this pageant.
But, she hasn't need me up there.
And I am proud that she has the sense of self and confidence to do it on her own.

Grrrr!

I'm not usually a negative person, but seriously, could May get any worse!

So, I take Kaya in for her follow up appointment with the pediatrician on Wednesday.....
They have decided that she had a very bad allergic reaction to something last Sunday.
She's has had a little lung damage from the episode.
The doctor proscribe her Albuteral for her lungs and wheezing,
and Epi-pens in case she has another problem.
(Talk about expensive!)
She also recommended that we get her to an allergist asap.
She has that appointment on Friday.
Dylen will follow next month, to be sure there are no surprises in store for us with him.

As the doctor is going over the looking portion of Ki, checking her lungs, heart, ears and throat, she see something in her ear......AGAIN!
The doctor tried to get it out, with out any luck.
Back to the ear nose and throat specialist again!
We were sent over there right after we got done with the pediatrician.

He managed to get it out....turns out it's a tiny piece of plastic.
How it got in there......I have no clue!

But on the funny and positive side of life.....

Here is a funny story I can't resist to tell you all.

I'm down stairs washing laundry.
Ki is no where in site, and very quiet.
(Not usually a good sign in her.)
I hear a drawer in our bathroom close and open a few times,
and just as I got up to investigate, Kaya comes down the stairs.....

.....She is holding a tampon, and says "Hey, there's no candy in here, I wanted candy."
I walk back up the stairs with her trying not to laugh to much.......
We get into the bathroom and there on the floor are about a dozen more.
At this point I fall over laughing so hard, what was going through that child's mind?
You'd think after the first one or so that she would have already figured it out.
So I explained to her they aren't candy......they are big girl things that she'll learn about later.
She gave me the funniest look, telling me she didn't understand and wanted me to elaborate, and I just left it at that.

And on another good note.

We had a great weekend.
We took the kids to a birthday party of a long time friend.
Saw lots of other friends from my past.
Visited with my aunt, uncle and grandmother.
The kids spent the night at my parent house and had a blast.

Yesterday, Kaya asked me to get out her big girl bike that she hasn't been able to ride until now.
She was able to get on and ride it immediately....with out any help!
She just might be ready for the training wheels to come off at the end of summer.
She didn't even want to get off to have lunch or dinner.

Scott and I did yard work,
played baseball and basket ball with the kids later in the afternoon.

Now, if I can just get through the next two weeks.
Tonight is dance and Dylen's first baseball game, which I'm going to miss. :(
Tomorrow, I go to get the results of my biopsy, try to fit in more dance.
Wednesday, Baseball again.
Thursday Dance, Dance and more Dance.
Friday.....Dance, Dance, Dr. for Ki, and then the Kids have gymnastics and dance.
Eeeeek!

And then next week it's worse.
We will only have a few days to prepare for our annual show coming up next Friday.
And more baseball games.

But, I asked for it.
I can't imagine not giving my kids the option to do the things they love.
My Mom did it for me, and I wouldn't change it.
I'll just sleep a week after all is said and done.

Is May Over Yet?

May has not been very good to us as a family just yet.
I'm ready to either start over or just jump ahead to the next.

I went in at the end of last month to the doctors to talk about some of my physical problems.
The doctor decided to have some blood test ran to check my thyroid.
The first tests came back negative.
I had to have an ultrasound done, she though she felt a lump and wanted it check out.
And sure enough they found a lump on the left side.
At first they though it was a cyst.
She sent me to a specialist to have it looked at more.
He said its not a cyst it's a "nodule" (leaving only two options for my problems and now further testing was needed).

The specialist ordered a biopsy to be done, it was scheduled for yesterday.

SOooo.....hold that thought for a minute and I'll get to that part in a moment.

Kaya had her pageant on Saturday.
She placed third in her age division.
She was also the only child in that age group to get on stage by herself with out a parent.
She placed third.
She did great, but they only allowed the children 30sec on stage.

We took the kids out to lunch a little while later, and ran some errands.
For a while that afternoon she sounded croupy.
The next morning she woke up fine and even had a great night.

Sunday morning I woke up to flowers and cards from Scott and the kids.
Scott and I did some yard work and he mowed the lawn.
He and I also started taking out another juniper bush in the front yard and had the kids help us clean up.
Later that night when it was time for bed Kaya refused to take the shirt off she had been in that afternoon and go to bed with out a shower or bath.
Dylen did so with out a fight.
I didn't think anything of it, even though the bushes aggravate my allergies and I break out in hives from them.

At around 11 pm she came in crying and hardly breathing.
Her face around her nose and mouth were blue.
We tried a few things to ease her breathing, and nothing was helping.
Then she started to throw up mucus.
And this made her even more upset and cause her airway to constrict more.

Scott and I made the decision to get her to the ER.
I told him I'd never seen her this bad.
She gets croup a few time a year and had never had the severe breathing problems she was having.

On our way up to the hospital we kept the window in the blazer rolled down and her bundled up in the hopes that her airway would sooth in the cool air.

After getting there they took her back to a room intimidate, and gave her a breathing treatment, while I dealt with the paperwork.

Her oxygen level was at 84 when we got there.
She still was having problems after the first breathing treatment.
They gave her one more with little results.
While the nurses were giving her a second treatment, the ER doctor said that driving up there with the windows down probably did her more good that we imagined.
If her oxygen levels were that low after our drive there they were probably worse before we left house that night.
In the end the staff decided she needed a steroid shot to get it under control.

So around two in the morning they decided that she need to be admitted to the hospital to monitor her over the night.
They're concern was that if they sent her home she would have another episode.

We got to her room, the nurse on shift that night took her vitals for good measure, got the kids asleep and Scott and I shared a little chair bed.
The both of us only got about four hours of rest that night.

I decided since she was doing so well that morning, I would go to my appointment and meet everyone back at the hospital afterwords.
My parent came up to the hospital early to come see her.
While they were there the doctor came in and talked with us just as I was getting ready to leave.
So Scott and my Dad, along with Dylen stayed behind with her.

My Mom went with me to my appointment, that way if Kaya was released early they could get home and not wait on me.
They did the biopsy, and said I should have very little bruising in the neck area.
The doctor took five samples from around my thyroid.
They didn't mentions the swelling that I would have.
Though I wasn't surprised when it started.
I will have the results back around the eighteenth.

After we got done there, we went on to the hospital again.
Just as we were walking in, they were wheeling out Kaya in a wagon.
The doctor wanted us to contact the pediatrician this week and have her checked for allergies.
He feared that it was allergy aggravated.
And wanted us to be sure that we could try and avoid another situation like this.
He also gave us an extra steroid for last night.
If we felt she was going to have a bad night we were to give it to her a few hours before bed.

She still sounded pretty bad around three in the afternoon, but was a little more rambunctious and almost back to her normal self.

We still had dance classes and baseball practice to get to, so we chose to go on with our day because she was doing so well.
Dylen was disappointed that baseball had to be called because of the rain.

Kaya had done well most of the evening.
At around six I gave her the medicine because she was still raspy and had the croupy cough.
(I knew that if she had another bad night we would all suffer even more for it.)
We all slept great last night and are doing well this morning.
She is still very tired and Dylen as well.

So now between the kids and I we are having to make a tough decision, and not take Kaya to the Cinderella state pageant next month.

But with any luck the rest of the month will be a little more .......Less active, a bad way?........Nicer to us?........If anything, just better than it has to date.
